After 15 years in sales (and a couple of side-quests that earned me qualifications in Fine Arts and Teaching), I blindly followed a stranger’s advice and took a role in recruitment. Luckily, the stranger was on to something. I quickly found I had a real knack for the industry. A career that had been entirely focused on becoming a bona fide people expert had (unsurprisingly) set me up for success as a recruiter. I initially recruited quite broadly before focussing on more technical and specialised positions. This wide-ranging experience helped me establish some universal truisms and offered insights into the interconnectedness of all professions.
